Here are some of our frequently asked questions:

When should I come for counselling?

If you feel you need help then it’s available. It is much better to come before the problem gets too serious.

You may come on your own, although if it is a specific problem within a relationship it is sometimes better to see both parties.

Ring 01483 602998. You will speak to an appointments secretary who will tell you about our service. You will be given an appointment that suits you.

Alternatively, you can request an appointment by filling in our appointments form.

The sessions will last 50 minutes to an hour for as many weeks  as you and your counsellor consider helpful. 

SearchLight is a registered charity. We do not aim to make a profit on our services. However, we do need to cover our costs. For more information about our charges, click here.

The counsellor will give you an opportunity to talk about your difficulties. We will ask you questions in order to help you decide if counselling feels right for you at this time.  

SearchLight have a Data Protection Policy. Please ask our Appointment team for a copy if you wish to see one. 

Counselling is private and confidential.  We will not give your name or any other information about you to anyone outside SearchLight unless we have concerns that you or somebody else may be at risk. We adhere to the GDPR regulations about sharing client data. 

We recognise that successful counselling depends on a strong therapeutic relationship. Please let us know if you’d like to change your counsellor and we will work with you to understand why and to help.

Our cancellation policy is that we ask for 48 hours notice. If you cancel within 48 hours, your session is chargeable.
